Introduction

Bowman Academy

Bowman Academy is a specialist all-through school for pupils aged 4-16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We provide a tailored curriculum designed to prepare pupils to be confident, successful and resilient individuals who make outstanding progress and are prepared for life after school.

Vision:
Bowman Academy’s Careers programme is underpinned by high aspirations for all learners, including those with complex SEND. Our approach is rooted in Preparation for Adulthood outcomes, with a clear focus on employment, independent living, community inclusion and health. We deliver a developmental careers curriculum that supports pupils to progress from exposure, to experience, and then to application, ensuring learning is meaningful and relevant. Our programme is shaped by annual EHCP review processes, learner voice and personalised pathways, and is guided by the Gatsby Benchmarks. Furthermore, Compass+ is used to evidence how Bowman as a school is adhering to the Benchmarks.

Intent:
Our careers education programme aims to support pupils to develop self-awareness, aspiration and hope for the future, while building the personal and social skills required to make successful transitions at key points in their education. Careers education at Bowman Academy is embedded throughout the curriculum from Year 7 to Year 11 and is designed to be developmental, trauma-informed and personalised. We recognise that for many pupils, readiness for careers learning begins with understanding themselves, regulating emotions, and developing positive attitudes to learning and work.
